Let’s rock this joint!
The aesthetics of the 1994 film The Mask are unmatched. I absolutely love everything about how Warner Brothers brought Edge City to life. It’s giving film noir with a dash of neon and something about it also gives Miami. Or at least my idea of Miami, I have yet to visit. I know I would’ve had a time at the Coco Bongo club! We had this film on dvd when I was a child and it quickly became a staple for me. The set design and the lighting of this film is sooo good. I just love the rainy, smoky nighttime atmosphere and the neon signs that reflected off of the pavement. I wish I could roam around in the fictional town of Edge City for a day. Jim Carrey is absolutely brilliant in this role and Cameron Diaz is serving bad bitch from beginning to end! I wish I had Tina Carlyle’s wardrobe. That black mesh dress with the red stripes that she wore in the final scene is to die for. Also I’m sad that Peter Greene recently transitioned to the other realm, no one plays a villain like him. RIP to a real one!
