Nicki Minaj is a cautionary tale.
I remember the very first cd that I got was Nicki’s Pink Friday. Besides Beyonce and Rihanna, Nicki was a huge part of the soundtrack to my adolescence. I would have never predicted that this is where she would be today. It’s sad to see what fame has done to her. I see her as a cautionary tale. Her evolution really highlights how important choosing a partner is and how it’s also important to choose yourself first. I hate seeing successful women lose everything over..men. Ewwww! It’s also clear that money and status don’t fix everything. She literally had the world at her fingertips at one point, but her trauma and ego had her. One thing I’m so grateful to understand is that healing is my responsibility and that my wellbeing comes first. Always. Nicki is a cautionary tale of what happens when you forget your own power and hastily make major life changes like getting married. Sometimes people aren’t worth potentially losing everything over. I just hope that when my season of blooming comes, I’m surrounded by a well intentioned community of people who genuinely love me. I also hope that I continue to have the awareness that I can build a beautiful life for myself that is fulfilling and shameless. Being self-invested as a black woman will save you from so many potentially dangerous situations and people. Having a clear mind and self-respect is such a blessing. I love it here <3
